This is a compact, lightweight, silent, vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). It is acapable of a maximum output of 70W and has a cut-in wind speed of 4m/s (9mph). It is perfect for use in conjunction with solar and therefore creating a hybrid power system. Can be used with street lights, car park lights, area lights, sign lighting systems and other stand-alone power systems etc.
This compact, silent, lightweight vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) is perfect for use working alongside solar powered systems. It can add valuable power to a lighting system at any time of the day or night when wind exists greater than the cut-in speed of 4 meters per second (9mph). Because a wind turbine can work during the hours of darkness, batteries can continue to be trickle charged when a solar panel becomes inoperable. This high quality, durable turbine features powder coated aluminium blades and stainless steel hardware. Maximum output is 70W. Even with the total height of this turbine being only 63cm and the blades 46cm high, the proven ‘Savonious’ rotor design is capable of more than 200rpm. It is design for harsh environments and can handle wind speeds over 100mph. The turbine also features a brush less motor, sealed bearings and a completely modular design. This turbine can be supplied complete with a column mount for columns 76mm to 114mm in diameter or a wall mount for vertical surface mount applications. Optionally available is our Over-Charge Disconnect / Motor Brake Circuitry (OCP / MB), which is suggested for use with all solar / wind hybrid applications. The OCP / MB monitors the battery state of charge and disconnects the wind turbine when the battery bank reaches a full charge. It also simultaneously applies motor breaking to prevent the turbine from free spinning under no load conditions. For all hybrid systems we suggest using our overcharge protection circuitry; however, this wind turbine does not require an external charge control to be installed under normal conditions. Due to the low Tip Speed Ratio of the turbine, the turbine output decreases naturally as the battery voltage increases and thus this provides a natural form of charge regulation. This VAWT is ideal for locations where wind power can boost the total power generation of a system and supplement solar power. This can help to reduce the amount of solar panel power required for a system and/or allow for more powerful lighting (brighter lights) to be incorporated into the design of a system. Common hybrid applications include car park lighting, street lighting, area lighting, sign lighting etc. Colour of product is white.

This wind turbine must be attached to a suitable column so that it faces into the direction of the average prevailing wind. Solar Illuminations has access to wind data and wind maps for the UK. We can therefore advise which side of the column it should be attached to for optimum performance. Please contact Solar Illuminations before installation for advice specific to the geographic location of your installation site. This wind turbine is supplied to work in conjunction with solar as a hybrid style system. It is not designed to be used as a stand-alone power generating device. The power output is estimated and subject to wind speed. It is also subject to various factors including (but not limited to) geographic location, seasons, temperature, weather conditions & location of product etc. The power output will reduce during times when wind speeds are lower. When wind speeds fall below the cut-in speed of 4m/s (9mph) or are non-existent, power output will be zero. Decreased or zero power output due to limited or non-existent wind speed does not define the product as being ‘defective’ or ‘not as described’. Although unlikely, we reserve the right to supply this product with any minor alterations or minor changes to the specifications (shown above by text description or by photographs) due to different supplies or product batches received, incorporating such product changes made by the manufacturer, without further notice. Descriptions, specifications and photographs are updated regularly but may not be current when minor changes to a product have only recently.
